MENS SUMMER PREMIER LEAGUE
2012 Summer League
Firstly a thank you to you all for your efforts over the summer season. There has been some hard fought games which is great, and overall behaviour has been good. Finals write up below;
The first game of the finals was the playoff for 3rd and 4th between the TCBA Under 19’s and A & J Demolition. TCBA Under 19’s were without the services of Theo Johnson who was away on NZ Under 18 duties in Australia. A & J Demolition took advantage of his absence and jumped on the younger team right from the start. Numerous turnovers and an effective transition game from A & J saw them up by a huge margin at half time (53-7). The second half continued in a similar fashion with A & J Demolition finishing up with a comfortable 98 – 31 win to take third overall.
The final was between the favourites Elders of Israel and the Bay Bombers. The Elders huge size advantage and poor perimeter shooting from the Bombers saw the Elders take a comfortable 10 point lead into half time (32-22). The second half saw the Elders continue to utilise their 2-3 zone defence, which had been so effective in the first half. The Bombers tried various options in an attempt to work their way back into the game but came up short. With the clock ticking down the Bombers attempted to get back into the game by putting the Elders on the Free Throw line. Elders showed poise to ice the game with 12 consecutive free throws. Final Score 70 to 56 to the Elders of Israel.
